Hurley Medical Center

Welcome to Hurley

For over 100 years, Hurley has committed itself to delivering the highest level of clinical care to all who walk through our doors.  From its founding in 1908, Hurley Medical Center has devoted itself to bringing innovative, leading-edge technology and medical services to Flint and Genesee County.  From our expertly trained physicians and nurses to our highly innovative technology to our state-of-the art facilities, Hurley is widely recognized as a medical center of exceptional excellence. Hurley provides Dr. Iddings with direct access to the latest in robotic daVinvi surgical systems and this allows the most complex patients with the most complex disease to benefit from minimally invasive surgery.

At Hurley, they combine state-of-the-art treatment efforts with educational and support services to achieve faster recovery rates and positive long-term outcomes. Their team of trained oncology specialists is involved in every aspect of screening, diagnosis, treatment, recovery and rehabilitation. Dr. Iddings (fellowship trained surgical oncologist) working with nurses certified by the Oncology Nursing Society develop individual, comprehensive treatment plans for each patient.

Hurley’s cancer program has received continuous approval from the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) since 1956 and meets the qualifications for a Community Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Program. This means that Hurley accessions over 650 newly diagnosed cancer cases each year and in addition to having board-certified experts on staff, the Center provides a full range of diagnostic and treatment services that are available on site or by referral. The Center is also required to participate in clinical research.

From helping patients receive the best treatments for their situation, to helping them cope with chemotherapy and radiation side effects, Hurley makes cancer care a priority.  Visit the Hurley Medical Center on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

Taking Steps to Make the Community Healthier

Genesee County is among the least healthy counties in Michigan and has a disproportionate higher rate of cancer then the rest of the state and country.  This is unacceptable and we have made it our mission to change it.  There our efforts to not only treat the high rate of cancer but to prevent it as well.

  • Hurley Center for Health Outcomes teaches the people of our community how to manage and even prevent obesity, diabetes, asthma, injuries, child abuse, high blood pressure, smoking, and many more health concerns.
  • To increase our community’s access to healthy food, we’ve created a Hurley Community Garden on the grounds of the hospital.
  • We aggressively combat diabetes with Genesee County’s largest group of diabetes education programs for adults, children, and pregnant women.
  • Asthma is far too common in our area, afflicting thousands of children and adults. Our home-based Asthma Disease Management Program is the only one of its kind in the region, showing proven results in reducing missed school, admission to the hospital, and deaths due to asthma.
  • Hurley Health and Fitness Center, the only medically-based fitness center in the area, helps our employees, their families, and the people of Flint get healthy and stay healthy.

Making Excellent Healthcare More Accessible

As we anticipate the coming changes in health care, Hurley is exploring new ways to provide our community with the medical care they need. Using new EPIC electronic medical records, patients’ information is immediately obtainable, regardless of where they go for care. My Chart makes their health record completely accessible and transparent for them online.

Hurley Medical Center is more committed than ever to providing the most innovative, highest quality patient- and family-centered care to everyone who needs us, now and in the future. As the health care needs of our communities change, we will find new ways to help them stay healthy and out of the hospital.
